Segue

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Segue: verb – to make a transition without interruption from one activity, topic, scene, or part to another.

An interesting thing happened when I moved on [segued] to Colossians 4.  The first is I learned how to spell “segue” and the second thing is far more personal and meaningful.  Application of the Word is by nature personally tailored but once in a while God confirms my thoughts with his truth for me.  My previous statement – ‘It’s a revelation for me to accept the only frame of reference I have for those dismal situations I can’t control is prayer’ has become God’s segue to “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

I’m pretty good at thankfulness. I’m certainly watchful of the world around me but right now my reality is worries, fears, condemnation of people, circumstances and politics with the TV news thrown in for emphasis.  To be honest it’s hard to remember God IS in the picture.  No wonder it’s hard for me to pray and that’s my segue to this:

“For whatever God says to us is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, exposing us for what we really are.”  [TLB Hebrews 4:12]

I can’t figure out how to pray because my words expose what I really am. That’s uncomfortable but here’s another segue to a phrase by Gary Chapmen: words can be “bullets or seeds.” I want my prayers to become “seeds” of devotion so that no matter who, no matter what, no matter when, no matter why, no matter how, when I pray I never forget God IS in the picture.
